Now that depth has decreased to a shallow 30 metres the area is coloured
with orange and black flags marking lobster pots. An extra outlook
required!

Thunder
Submitted by JanKees Lampe on Thu, 11/06/2009 - 11:48.Race committee do their best to make it real OSTAR at the end.
Now, I'm in the middle of a huge thunder cloud complex, 6nm wide.
Torrential rain and hail. Flashes and thunder all around. Scary.
Clear on radar.
Switched off all electronics but autopilot.
Took the gennaker down. Full main.
I like thunder! Watching it from behing the bedroom window in my pyjama!
Not here, not now!

Please give me 47 knots
Submitted by JanKees Lampe on Thu, 11/06/2009 - 04:15.What a hhell of a night! No wind at all! Totally becalmed! Mad!
With hindsight, I'd prefer the 47 knots of wind I had last week!

Can hear you, can't see you!
Submitted by JanKees Lampe on Wed, 10/06/2009 - 19:10.Thick fog! Force 4/5 wind. Smoking along with 8 knots over ground.
Have some fisherman talking over VHF. Can't see them.
Keep a close radarwatch and eye on AIS.
Weird!

Red, green and feet
Submitted by JanKees Lampe on Wed, 10/06/2009 - 15:38.Bear in mind that we have to keep the red cans starboard and the green
cans port here.
And that chartdepth is in foot.

Finish and laundry
Submitted by JanKees Lampe on Wed, 10/06/2009 - 14:38.Landfall is coming closer. The idea of winning this OSTAR is slowly
becoming truth? This morning I even received the first congratulations!
From who else than from Bart (Boosman a/b Franschman a Boosman30).
Yes, at some point one may think about victory although the feeling says
"we're not finished yet!".
Line honours and a new record for 40 foot! My smile will reach from 41N
to 60N and from 70W to 05W!
Last night was good sailing and little rest.
