It suddenly got very cold over night as the wind swung to the north. A quick check of the sea temperature confirmed all - down to 7 degrees c. Pretty Chilly. As I was trying to reassemble the foresail into the head foil, my hands were freezing! Not the weather for drying out sleeping bags and oilies then... shame! Could have done with that!
Well after a short bust at 7knots towards Newport the wind has died down as promised. We are now crawling again. We are edging nearer and nearer that 1000 mile mark. It's been really frustrating. Normally we cover at least 100 miles a day. Yesterday if anything we went backwards. I know we have lost out a lot on the other competitors and while half of me is rally frustrated and almost a bit bitter, the other half is reminding me that its the first solo Atlantic and I always said the priority was finishing.
Despite the cold, I have have offered some damp clothing to the deck to see if it dries. Not gonna lie - mostly knickers. Running out of dry ones! Even the knicker store got damp in the Day Thirteen carnage.
Had a hearty bowl of pasta and pesto (A new favourite thanks to Hannah Jenner) and am seriously considering the dancing having to be the new activity to replace reading, given the lack of readable literature and the need for warmth inducing activities. I will admit, I have kept one of the damp books for emergencies.... with patience I can just peel the pages back one by one, but its very tiring and the book is not yet interesting enough to merit it.
Anyhoo, a bit of breeze is kicking in now so should go and make the most of it. Really looking forward to seeing everyone soon, Intrigued what standing on dry, unmoving ground is going to be like!
