I watched the barometer drop through the night, the wind was sure to
follow. Two hours before light i'm sailing through lightening, nasty
gusty winds to 30kt and some shipping that decided to liven up the
party. I left the reefing a bit late as i was no running and thought i
might not need it. When i did decide to reef the wind was gusting fierce
but it was still dark. Finally i got to it, crawled on my knees to the
mast, got wet and tired struggling with the reefing lines. Then by
magic, just as it had come the wind died off. By the time i had crawled
back to the cockpit there were no more than 10 knots of wind... i
couldnt believe it, reefs off again.
I didnt quite understand this low, we seem to have gone straight from
southerlies to north westerlies, perhaps i'm so close to it's centre
that what i thought to be series of gusts were in fact the two fronts in
quick succession. weird.
Now, for the first time in 3 days, it's time to tack, i'm heading
backwards as the wind keeps on shifting!
