Getting ready for the OSTAR is a mission in itself, and today i can say the weather has not been cooperating too much either. This is the coldest January in many years and i havent been back in Plymouth where the boat lies stored ashore since before xmas.
Since this summer, when i dismasted whilst training, i have worked extensively on the boat in bid to be ready for the race ahead of time.
The new mast went up in late november, the new sails arrived in december. I've had a new rudder made, more balanced, and installed a new autopilot drive which should address the problems i had last summer with auto steering systems.
I dedicated january to beaurocracy, sorting out insurance, training certificates, visa to the US and other bits and pieces.
Now, come february, it's time to go back to the boat and look at that job list once again, try to install, fix, and prepare everything. Hopefully march and april will leave a little time for sailing and making sure everything is in order but we need some better weather!!!
Ciao.
