I am absolutely cream crackered this afternoon. It has been a rubbish 18 hours, first of all sailing into a big hole because the wind didn’t do what it said it was going to and secondly not being able to get out of it. I lay awake all night trying to get the boat moving in the fearful panic that everyone would just sail straight past me, thankfully as it happens, everyone else has got no wind too!!
At the moment I have my massive spinnaker up in the vain hope that if something can find the wind it will be that. I also used the drifting conditions to do a few jobs around the boat - topped the tanks up with fuel, had a clean and a tidy up and had a look at one of my winches that was not behaving! About an hour ago I finally admitted defeat and took to my bunk for an hour or so... just got up - still not much progress on the speed front and a little bit grumpy if the truth be known. I think I need some food! I am sorry about Jankees's fingers that must be horrid... I shall use that as the reason that he has not replied to my email! We are currently doing 5-5.5kn in the right direction and I may well try and have another snooze later and leave George to man the wheel...!
So for the first time today I had a quick look at positions and to see whom I am up with. I feel a little bit how I did was I was younger and I used to hang out with my brother and his friends all 5 years older than me!! I knew I shouldn’t really be there, but it was much more fun and exciting be with them, skipping along behind them trying to keep up. What I am trying to say is that it is just little old me and my little 33-foot boat and we don’t really have the credentials to be up here with the bigger boats... but we quite like it so are going to enjoy it while it lasts! I have a few sail changes on the horizon, so might try and squeeze in another 30mins of sleep in before then. Hope you are all having a lovely Saturday... I think given that it is Sunday tomorrow, each competitor should be given 24 hours just to stop, sleep, eat, change and start again for Monday - I shall put that is as idea for 2013. Right enough waffle I am off for some Liz Earle hand cream and then some more sleep...

any news from F1 by the way???? H xx

Hannah, Hello from the USA -

Hannah,

Hello from the USA - your dad sent me your blog and I have to say I am in total amazement. I'm guessing by now that you have figured out that the Atlantic is a bloody big "pond"! It's been great fun watching (yes, keep the photos coming) and reading about your progress. Hopefully you are keeping a detailed journal so you can write your adventure book! When you land in the States and if you come to Washington DC, there's a good meal waiting for you.

Tony
