Hannah White, 25 from Lymington announced today that she will be competing in this year’s OSTAR after signing a sponsorship deal with the record label PureSolo. She will race on a Figaro II aptly named "PureSolo".
Four years ago, Hannah became the youngest female ever to enter the race aboard the 40' White Spirit. During the 2005 race, battling through the tough weather that battered the fleet Hannah had her fair share of worries struggling with a faulty autopilot. On the 7th day of the race she took the difficult decision to preserve her boat and retire from the race.
Hannah now returns to defend her place among the young rising stars of offshore racing. Katie Miller must be feeling the pressure, racing on bluQube, a Figaro II identical to Hannah's PureSolo will have to prove she's up to the game. If anyone ever thought that offshore solo sailing is immune to the extremes of hair-pulling female competition, this is the battle to watch.
Hannah commented on her website: “I am absolutely delighted to be heading for the OSTAR start-line once again. Four years ago I had to retire with autopilot failure and so the race has always been unfinished business for me. I am totally focused on getting to the USA and having some fun along the way. Music and singing have always been a huge part of my life, and this amazing opportunity with PureSolo will allow me to
combine all the things I love. I am now sponsored by a music company, a clothing company, and a vodka company… all I need now is a cosmetics company and it will be a perfect trip!”
We fully support Hannah's campaign and wish her the best for what must be somewhat rushed preparations, with just 69 days to go to the start.
