JanKees Lampe, the star in blogSTAR

When a while back we looked at who was favourite for overall line honours for this race JanKees Lampe came second. Let me explain what we meant by second because, believe me, it sounds more like first to me. JanKees is the star in blogSTAR.

Everyone agreed that only one person had a chance to beat him to the line in Newport, and that person is a professional sailor called Anne Casaneuve sailing a 50ft trimaran capable of speeds that are precluded by the law of physics to JanKees' very fast and very sexy Open 40 monohull La Promesse. So once we split multis from monos, JanKees is the favourite of this race and let's not forget Anne has to get to Newport to claim her prize, the ocean does not award it on paper, and everything can happen... some wind conditions favour monohulls over tris, and the game is still open to play.

JanKees (42) is married, happy father of two boys and entrepeneur by profession.
He has been sailing since his teens and started sailing solo in 2000.

JanKees will sail on La Promesse, a Phil Morrison design, one of the fastest forty-footers in Europe which Proved her speed by completing the 1200 mile outward leg of the Azores and Back race in 6.5 days in 1999 and 5.8 days in 2003.

Built from kevlar and glass epoxy/Carbon deck, she has an 1100kg bulb on a pencil thin 4m carbon keel and 1200 litres of water ballast, comfort has not been allowed to get in the way of performance.

The boat was a Winner in OSTAR 2000. JanKees took La Promesse to 2nd in class, 4th overall in RBI 2006 with co-skipper and OSTAR entrant Bart Boosman. La Promesse took line honours in both legs of AZAB2007.
