Rubicon Arrives in Newpor t

Rubicon and I are safe and sound in Newport, RI, having crossed the finish line at 3:30 pm (7:30 UTC) on Friday, July 3rd. To all my friends and supporters who followed this adventure and posted messages on the website, I extend my deepest appreciation. This OSTAR proved somewhat more challenging than I might have anticipated. Oh what the heck, let me be honest and admit that it has joined the short list of the hardest things that I have done on this planet. During those moments when the challenges seemed particularly acute, I thought of the warm and encouraging messages which had been forwarded to me and I took heart. The reality of the OSTAR was different than the dream, but the reality was worth every bit of the effort. I hope that your dreams also become real and are as rewarding as this one has been for me.

Congratulations on your

Congratulations on your successful crossing. We have #24 Outbound and have three lovely NW summers on her. We are planning on heading to South America next year and are curious about the failures of both your Autopilot (was it a raymarine 6000?) and the Hyddrovane (we are contemplating putting one on. Can you share some of your experiences with us, specifically the failure of both pieces of equipment and what you might have done differently. email plainjane1@comcast.net

Congratulations on the trip

Congratulations on the trip of a lifetime. You have so much to be proud of. I'm sure you're kids must be so relieved now that you are safely on shore. I'm sure crossing the finish line made those windless days at sea worthwhile.

The next Ostar will be much more enjoyable. Go for it!
