An Idyllic Day

Hi All,

Today has been idyllic. Like the stories of trade wind sailing – Warm air, blue skies. Also had winds on the beam and making 8kts. Got all my damp clothes dry. Have just put them on so I guess hay will be damp again by morning.

Just found that the range of the radar detector (SeaMe) is around 28 miles since that is the range of the AIS. A new target has just come up on the screens. Both systems warn me of any shipping around.

With the HF radio antenna failed I cannot pick up any radio stations. It feels strange not to hear a radio at some point in the day.

Had a worry around midday – heard a loud graunching noise – couldn’t think what it was. Then remembered the same noise one day in the Solent. It is the top rudder bearing (nylon) squeaking. A quick spray of MacLube and all is well again.

Karen has catered for me very very well. For breakfast I fried an onion, wow the smell of that, then added some chopped bacon and the cooking aromas improved even further. Add some beaten eggs and hey an omelette. But when hungry on a boat cant be bettered.
