Preparations well underway – boat high and dry

My yacht FANFAN! is based on the Baltic sea close to the polish border (54.07 N, 13.45 E). The climate there is already quite continental, which means, that winter can become harsh sometimes. My marina was completely frozen and it took until March until the ice was gone. I spent FANFAN! a visit in the middle of March. She stood high and dry on land and from her cockpit one can overlook the great landscape of Western Pomerania . In sight is the former power plant of the WWII rocket testing site Peneemünde, where the infamous V2 Rocket was developed and tested. Today there is a museum which is worth a visit.

I picked up my new spinnaker at the sailmakers loft, connected my brand new Eee PC with Maxsea Software with my GPS and Raymarine electronics and thought about a solution to get my keel stepped mast finally watertight (without a result…). An antifouling paintjob, a visit in the local supermarket and FANFAN! is ready for delivery to Plymouth . But I try to be not too optimistic because I know from experience, that nasty problems are lurking everywhere when you intend to have your boat at a certain time at a place which is 700 miles away.
