OSTAR 2013 Mentor

Sailors who have been inspired by this years race and the detailed reporting on BlogStar and who may be thinking about competing in the Ostar 2013 should not loose a moment in starting their preparations.

One of the first steps toward a successful campaign is to make contact with the present group of skippers to discuss the race and the potential pitfalls in detail. Four years is hardly long enough to put together a competitive and safe project.

Petit Bateau is the ideal forum to meet the skippers who have raced this year and many who raced in previous editions, 2000 , 2005 etc. We organise solo races in the Solent and the Channel to help practice the art of single-handed racing and no doubt we will run a qualifying race in 2012 as we have for the last 2 editions, Mylor to Ireland to Spain to France, 1000 miles.

For the 2013 cohort we are proposing a new mentoring scheme for those who are actively considering the Ostar, it is a very big project and best done with the support of experienced sailors who have made all the old mistakes themselves.
